    "Good" (97860831)

Excellent staff and food in restaurant

Room a bit small compared to other Apex hotels, did not think it was executive room.

"Pleasant enough but have stayed in better hotels in Edinburgh for that price" (97555178)

    It was ample and umfussy

    en suite was too compact

Comfortable room with excellent facilities. Nicely laid out.

High cost of breakfast, no flexibility to just have toast or a bacon roll at a lower price. Cost my husband £9.50 for toast and me £12.50 for scrambled egg and two sausages - although I asked for only 1 and ate only 1. Noise from traffic outside.

"Modern hotel in an excellent location for Murrayfield stadium. The only downside was the tiny bar which had no draft beer only bottles priced at £3.00 each (usual Edinburgh rip off). Staff polite and friendly. The Apex city in the Grassmarket area is also nice and in an excellent location for exploring the old town." (99088726)

    clean, modern, comfortable

had great difficulty locating an accessible socket for the kettle, phone charger etc.(behind very heavy curtains & TV.

    nice clean room, very comfortable

do realise that we were staying over new years eve, but still found it a bit pricey

"How close this Hotel is in relation to Princess Street i.e. 10/15min walk or 5mins by taxi. A small map of the area with directions to Princess Street & the Train Stations would have been handy for First time visitors." (99579900)

Very Clean & well maintained with Friendly Staff.

"this is a small but welcoming hotel and the interior rooms are better equiped than the outside of the hotel and the small foyer would initially suggest. staying was a pleasing experiance but if you are alight sleper check if your room is roadside as it very noisy even with the windows sut and that means no air.even so value for money." (3304849006)

clean spacious room, welcoming wine and cold water in fridge. large tv screen , breakfast choice was good although orange juice ran out

    nothing really. little bit noisy.

"The hotel provided very average service for the price paid. The public areas are pretty dismal and cramped. Staff were pleasant but not very welcoming." (3304825787)

Hotel easily accessble to city centre Good size bed Pleasant bathroom

Room was stuffy and very noisy because of being next to main road. The lack of air-conditioning was a big disadvantage.

  • 5/10 Carole (Group of adult friends)

"I did not see any of the other rooms so cannot compare them to the size of ours. It was adequate for a one night stay not longer. We thought breakfast was expensive so ate 2 minutes down the road. The hotel was as described just not what we considered value for money." (3304283865)

It was clean and modern. Situated within a short walk of the city and a main railway station.

The room had an uncomfortable bed I could feel the springs from the mattress. It was quite small and the desk chair could not be used as you could only sit sideways on as it was between the desk and the end of the bed. (I am 5'1 tall and not over weight!) The shower went off intermittently. There was no storage space the wardrobe was minute and the shelving only big enough for socks!!

    overpriced for what it was

  • 6/10 Frank (Mature couple)

    from Ardee , Ireland;IE on  August 3, 2006

"Room was not good value, small and very hot (mostly due to having to keep windows closed). Confusion with number of Apex hotels in Edinburgh (thought we had booked into the Apex International). Be careful you select the correct hotel! Staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. Cost of breakfast was in my opinion excessive (booked as room only)." (3304977751)

Proximity to city centre, friendly staff.

Overpowering odour eminating from local brewery meant we could not open windows, room was uncomfortably warm as a result.

  • 9/10 Anonymous (Mature couple)

    on  July 29, 2006

Location wise, it was within walking distance of a dinner we were attending in Edinburgh that evening.

There was no air conditioning and the window would not open. The room was therefore uncomfortably warm Unfortunately, there was no parking available so we had to park on the street adjacent to the hotel which required a parking charge.

    Clean and a good size.

Facing a brick wall out of the window. Very few TV channels

"Great hotel overall - my boyfriend and I thought it was clean, friendly and modern. It might be worth knowing if you're a tourist that it's not located in the center of city. It's a short 10-minute walk to Old or New Town and there's plenty near the hotel - but if you don't like walking, you'll have to take a cab frequently." (3304725986)

It was extremely clean and modern and it had a lot of extra amenities (e.g., flat screen TV, DVD player, etc).

The doors slam shut very loudly and wake you up when other guests leave their room.

    from Southampton , United Kingdom;GB on  June 4, 2006

"We enjoyed our stay. We caught a shuttle bus from the airport and didn't have a map of Edinburgh, on arrival, so more precise information about the location of the hotel would have helped. Our only real complaint was concerning the breakfasts which we thought were expensive. If we had been tempted to have breakfasts in the hotel, we might well have chosen to have evening meal/s there, as well. Other than this, we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to others. Thank you Roger Jones" (3304726763)

Convenient location. Comfortable beds. Helpful staff. Good bathroom. Good visual facilities (television; DVD.)

Breakfasts were not included in the price paid and these were expensive, at £11 each. We used a local cafe which provided very good value breakfasts at £7 each.

"Nice rooms with a modern look. TV and DVD to make you feel at home. Very comfortable bed. Fantastic position - near city centre." (3304689824)

Lovely rooms, very clean and comfortable. Mod-cons were a bonus - dvd rental was a great idea. Great position relative to city centre. Very friendly staff.

Not much. Noise from other guests' bathrooms was a bit of a concern - heard someone in the middle of the night 'calling ralph on the porcelain phone' a bit too clearly...!

Being woken up early by the cleaning staff.

the size of the room for the cost could be improved.

"Basically same as above. The staff were very friendly and in particular our receptionist for the weekend was very very friendly. But I do think the hotel was a let down. I had taken my mam for her 50th BIrthday and was disappointed. I had heard great reviews about the Apex City and presumed that it would carry its name throughout all the hotels, but the European was disappointing as detailed above." (3304186312)

    It was comfortable and quiet.

I think the hotel is not great value for money and in particular the European is very very poor in comparison to the City and International and there is not much difference with regards the price. There is no real lounge area and the hotel bar is quite small to say the least. Not really a hotel I would go to relax for the weekend to be honest.

"The accomodation was very comfortable, there were plenty of mains sockets and an internet connection in the room there was also a TV with a DVD player which is great if you have kids or you are working away! The staff are friendly and helpful,I would definately go back and I have already recommended it to friends and collegues." (2777167)

Very clean and modern, and there were DVD players in the hotel rooms!

Possibly a menu change every couple of days

    Good decor

Cleanliness of the rooms, ashtrays weren't emptied, glasses weren't washed, coffee wasn't left. Altogether very poor.

    "as above very good" (2210611)

very comfortable, clean and tidy, staff very friendly

larger wardrobe space, making sure sapmle of all toiletries were in the roon, as we only had body wash and shampoo ( could of used bath foam!! including breakfast as part of the price, as felt it was very expensive

"We felt it was adequate but the breakfast was of a very poor quality and certainly not worth the money." (2116293)

The room was cleaan and adequate for the purpose of our visit.

The lift of the hotel was very poor and not up to the standard expected of a 4 star hotel
