"The room was stylish and the staff were very helpful, especially the staff at reception. Having had a bad experience with a cancelled flight and a lost suitcase before I reached the hotel, I realized how comforted one can feel being met by sympathetic and pleasant hotel staff." (97755153)

The design of the room, the helpfulness of staff.

    Nothing

    It was alright

The room was very noisy on the first floor and very noisy. There was only soap and not any other toiletries

"VERY NOTICABLE DECOR WITH MODERN MINIMALIST TOUCHES OVERALL. WELL DONE TO THE INTERIOR DESIGNERS. VERY HELPFUL YOUNG STAFF ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP. COMFORTABLE AND GOOD SIZED ROOM. WHAT DOES ONE WANT MORE AT THIS PRICE BRACKET. WELL DONE GUYS...KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. ON A LESS POSITIVE NOTE...NOT SURE BUT HOTEL DOES NOT OFFER INTERNET CAFE IF I RECALL CORRECTLY (ALTHOUGH I WAS DIRECTED TO A CLOSE BY LOCATION BUT ITS BETTER IF THE HOTEL COULD DO THIS) ADMITTEDLY INTERNET CONNECTION IS AVAILABLE IN THE ROOM WE HAD BUT ONLY TO THOSE CARRYING THEIR LAPTOPS. PEOPLE WOULD NEED TO READ THEIR E-MAILS AND DO SOME LIGHT SURFING WHEN ON HOLIDAY AS WELL....OOPS SORRY FOR THE ALL UPPER CASE REMARKS" (97722154)

THE PHYSICAL LOCATION IS AN ASSET AS IT LENDS ITSELF TO BE CLOSE (WALKING DISTANCE) TO THE OLD PART OF THE TOWN AS WELL TO EATING PLACES AND SHOPPING (INCLUDING PRINCESS STREET)

  • 9/10 Michael (Solo business traveller)

"This hotel is refreshingly modern with good old fashioned friendly service. The food is excellent, choice of wine good and rooms very comfortable." (97247566)

The staff were attentive and friendly

Nothing really, perhaps could do with a trouser press. Maybe free Internet access.

"Ours was a last minute booking so we were pleased to find somewhere. On arriving at the hotel we were surprised to have got somewhere so nice. It's location is very convenient. A short walk to most places of interest. The staff were very helpful. The buffet breakfast (extra cost) was extremely comprehensive and if you book it the night before, you get discount. There is a convenient NCP carpark, manned 24 hrs, and as a hotel customer you get 20% discount by getting your ticket coded at the reception. The pub opposite is quite good too! We would definitely stay there again" (97250271)

Good location. Cheerful colourscheme and lighting. Helpful staff and fantastic breakfast.

The place needs a bit of a makeover. The paintwork is a bit shabby

"The hotel was disappointing, I was under the impression it was an attractive boutique style hotel. My room, although clean and acceptable, had no natural light and just looked somewhat shabby round the edges. The floor I stayed on (1st) was like a prison corridor lit with neon lights, pretty depressing. Maybe other rooms/floors were better, mine definitely not." (99638094)

    Proximity to conference centre

Wide selection of lap dancing clubs etc in an area apparently known locally as the pubic triangle. My room had no natural light as it was long and corridor-like with a window facing another wall.

  • 5/10 Sheila (Young couple)

from Los angeles , US on  June 23, 2007

    Bed was a nice size

The girl at check in was slightly rude. I had to pre-authorize my card for 40 GPB over what my rate was, which didn't make any sense and she wasn't helpful in clarifying. The blond woman at the front desk, however, was fantastic.

"This hotel is absolute great value. Location was good just a few minutes walk from Edinburgh Castle and also quite close to shops. Great view from the room we were in as it was overlooking the castle. Staff were excellent, always so helpful and friendly. Rooms were very nice had everything that you needed, very clean and comfortable. The hotel bar was very relaxing and the food was perfect, however the breakfast was quite expensive and we avoided it because of that. I would definately recommend this hotel for anyone and it seems to suit people of all ages. One thing I was not happy with was that I checked in quite late and ended up staying in a twin room instead of as double. However we were allowed move to a double the next day and the staff checked us into a double that was on the same floor. I would give the hotel 9 and a half out of ten and I would definately go the the Point if I was in Edinburgh again." (99436196)

Staff were very helpful and friendly,10 out of ten for staff. Rooms were very nice, clean and comfortable. View was excellent overlooking the castle. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious. The bar had a nice relaxing atmosphere. Good location and felt the price was very reasonable.

We checked in quite late therefore we ended up getting a twin room instead of a double, however we were allowed change to a double the next day and staff moved us next door which was great. Shower was difficult to use and very powerful. lights did not seem to work in our first room we were in just could use dim lights. Breakfast food expensive

"Hotel was in a great location, and our room had a good view of the castle. Staff were efficient and friendly, although I nearly got charged twice for breakfast. Room was clean and comfortable, although the bathroom was basic, and you could not really avoid getting hit with very cold water when you turned on the shower due to the position of the taps! The bar is nice and has a wide range of drinks and cocktails." (99687773)

Location, Nice Bar, good comfy bed and bed linen. Great views

Bathroom, taps, basins, floor were not very nice and felt that the bathroom would fit better in a basic B+B, not a hotel

  • 9/10 Daniel (Other)

Very smart and modern. This has a lot of appeal to me and I'll be considering you if I come back to Edinburgh because of this. Also your staff were very good, and I loved the bed, couch and TV in my room.

No iron in the room (very strange), and my mother thought the meat in the casserol was a little tough, but your excellent staff accomodated her as best they could (thank you).

  • 9/10 Nicola (Young couple)

from Sedgefield , GB on  May 13, 2007

"Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Point. It was a a little bit out the way so wouldn't be suitable for people with walking difficulties. But i wasn't miles away from the hussle and bussle of Edinburgh. It's about a 5 minute taxi ride from Waverly train station which costs around £5. The hotel itself is lovely and the staff are very friendly. The double room we stayed in was very spacious with everthing we could have needed. I would definately stay here again." (99161589)

The hotel is very modern and the rooms are spacious and well laid out. The hotel bar was nice with a wide selection of drinks.

The shower was in need of a repair but that's all i can think of to fault it on!

The staff was very courteous and helpful. The room was very clean. The food was very good. The restaurant staff was excellent.

There were no facecloths to use. The shower curtain was too light and clung to you when you had a shower.

"Lovely hotel that I would stay at again as said previous would have been nice to be told about work going on in hotel when booking and earlier breakfast would have been nice. However on a leisure stay this would not have been a problem." (99867782)

excellent views of the castle from bedroom window

WOuld have been nice to be told that work was going on in the hotel although this did not disturb my stay. Also breakfast at 7 earlier would be nice especially as I had to leave earlier than that

  • 5/10 Anonymous (Solo leisure traveller)

"I thought the room was over-priced given that it did not include breakfast or complimentary biscuits or fruit bowl etc. I do believe that the price was for the city centre location and the helpful staff only (who were very nice)" (99301642)

Bag storage was extremely helpful as I arrived early and needed to get to the rugby game before 1.30pm. The hotel being so close to the castle was stunning. Helpful staff.

I thought the bathroom (given the size of the bedroom and the entrance) was extreemly small. The bathroom itself was very uninspiring and had no luxury bath lotions etc. I thought the lighting seemed a bit gimmicky and almost felt like a rather posh Halls of Residence.

    from Slough , United Kingdom;GB on  March 7, 2007

"Breakfast wasn't included in our room rate, so I can't comment on that. Overall a really comfortable, pleasant stay. The rooms were clean, tidy and just enough to base ourselves out of, but then we didn't spend a large amount of time in there. They were also incredibly quiet for a hotel, with minimal noise from the corridor. The location, just at the bottom of castle hill, was perfect. There were no issues with cleanliness, as some other reviews have suggested. The bright yellow door colours in the corridors are posssibly the only issue!" (99598262)

The rooms are simply designed, with no clutter, but are comfortable and feel welcoming. The king-size bed was really comfy, and the shower was incredibly powerful!

The rooms are very long and narrow, so possibly a picture or two on the wall might work better. And a bedside table on both sides of the bed. Apart from that, it was great.

The bar is excellent and obviously a good after work drinks spot for the Edinburgh suits! Great breakfast, again brilliant service. Good location - short distances to main attractions/thetres and restaurants...expect this kind of service in a 5 star - but got it here at a 3 star deluxe - great vakue for money and will certainly be returning." "The hotel is an odd shaped building but felt like the top end of a 4 star with an impressive entrance and friendly, helpful staff. The bedrooms were small but clean and very comfortable with everything you need (except a mini bar!) and a powerful shower in the bathroom. Great location - everything within a few minutes walk away. The downstairs bar is very nice and lively - a life-saver during Hogmanay which was cancelled. We didn't get round to eating dinner at the hotel but would definitely recommend the breakfast. We had an amazing time in Edinburgh and would definitely stay at this hotel again." (3305364808)
