    Good for the price.

    Very small shower - lucky I'm not a big person. Room was not quiet because it was near a stairwell.

    staff were friendly, room was clean.

    For the amount the room cost it was not value for money at all. Very small bathroom with not even a bath! tiny sink. the room decoration was very dated, windows were filthy and walls were very thin. The whole hotel smelt too strongly of cleaning products and was quite overpowering. The scottish breakfast we were promised turned out to be an English breakfast.

    "Apart from spending 15mins outside at 2am one night because the fire alarm got set off we had an enjoyable stay. The breakfast is good and the hotel is in a good location from the city. The staff were friendly and helpful. Good value for money." (97984497)

    The breakfast was good and the hotel is in a good location to get to the city. Staff, especially staff at breakfast were very friendly and helpful.

    We had trouble with the room temperature and at 2am one night we spent 15mins outside after we had to be evacuated because the fire alarm got set off.

    "a good hotel, but it could be so much better if it is given a revamp. nothing fancy - just a lick of paint and new lino in the bathroom would improve it by 100%. " (107939966)

    the hotel was well presented on the outside and in public areas.

    the decor in the rooms was very very tired and shabby. It seems that the owner of the hotel does not care about presentation and feels that a lick of paint is too much trouble.

    "Intelligence and charisma displayed by receptionists made up for the poor breakfast experience to a certain degree. Would stay again if I knew it had improved." (107660072)

    Receptionists extremely helpful regarding directions and parking issues etc. Clean room, adequately furnished.

    Trouser press unserviceable. Not enough coffee/tea ingredients. Window faced construction site and curtains didnt stay shut (blind would be better). Breakfast very disappointing (self-service poorly stocked, waiting staff unattentive, no direction or greeting received at restaurant). Disappointing choice of TV channels (no cable etc).

    Room was very clean and had everything i.e enough towels/soap/toilet rolls etc. I arrived two hours early at the hotel and asked if I could check in earlier. The staff expedited the cleaning process so I was able to get in shortly after I arrived.

    Shower wasn't very powerful and we had problems opening the windows in the room. Couldn't quite work out if you could open them.

    "Overall I have nothing bad to say about the hotel. I do stay in hotels quite often and I must say comapred to a 2 star hotel this hotel was great. I specially loved the staff for their professionalism and friendliness.I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone travelling to Edinbrugh for any reason.     Good size single room. clean and everything in good working order. Breakfast was good.Very friendly staff.

    there was construction work going very near the hotel. It disturbed me a little.But I guess that wasn't a fault of the hotel itself.

    "The hotel location was too far walking distance from the general shopping mile street, but it was the perfect locaton for us! The hotel was very easy to find, the staff were very friendly and helpful. They recommended to eat at Zizzi's, which was sooooo good!     Exactly what we were looking for, Budget Hotel accomodating 14 for Stag Party, 24 hour service at Bar, Security & good location, Staff were very helpful with Trains & Taxi's, Would Recommend highly.

    "The hotel was not very central, surrounding area of the hotel was dirty with old furniture and rubbish bags outside adjacent buildings. On arrival reception was prompt and friendly and reception area clean and tidy, with good information point, however the rooms need updating and appeared very dusty and in need of a clean, there was also a unpleasant smell about them,adequately furnished, bathroom small but adequate.     "The Hotel was neat tidy and very clean, with a very freindly helpful staff. The location was great for walking into the city centre and all the sites. Our room was clean and comfy. Our only problem was the timeing for breakfast, as we found that Edinbugrh was a late night city, it would have been nice if breakfast was later in the morning, especially at the weekend."     The location of the hotel was perfect for the city centre, the fact that breakfast was included in the price was also a bonus. The hotel itself was clean and the staff very freindly and helpful. It was nice that the room was changed daily.

    The en-suite bathroom was a little on the small side, and although breakfast was included in the price, it was quite early in the moring. It would have been better if breakfast had started later or run till a little later in the morning.

    "I was just after a cheap room for the night as i was only staying overnight for a friends birthday. The Hotel was easy to find, and for the price far exceeded my expectations. Extremely friendly staff. Pleasant decor and atmosphere. Each room had a different name which amused me and made the stay seem more personal. Didn't get a chance to sample the Scottish breakfast - due to feeling the after effects of celebrating my friends birthday the night before, but i'm sure it would have been to the same high standards as everything else seemed to be.     Comfortable bed, easy access to hotel (24 hours), staff were friendly.

    Shower ran out of hot water quickly, breakfast was poor (everything cooked first thing and left for hours, quickly ran out of bread), sink in bedroom not bathroom.

    The treatment from the staff was really kind. Good relation price-place in comparison with other hotels around.

    I think Internet access should be free. A lot of people select the accomodation by choosing a hotel with free internet.

    "Checking in and out was quick and easy. Room was small for three adults but, being on the top floor, was quiet with no traffic noise. Breakfast was very good but restaurant too small to accommodate all guests (unless we all came down together on our first morning!).     "I think it was a touch pricey for what it was. Only a touch, but a touch nevertheless. It might be that I'm out of touch re Edinburgh, or might be that prices were hiked for peak season plus Fringe Festival.     In terms of noise from other guests coming in happy and drunk we suffered a little. If you use a cheap door for the room then that's when it bites.

    "The Herald House is a lovely little hotel with a convenient location. The hotel is very clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly and very helpful (especially Lisa at Reception). The price is reasonable and includes a great big breakfast. Especially during the craziness of high season (August) in Edinburgh, it is a good economical choice. I highly reccomend it !"
